Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) is an approach that has been developed to help children and young people who have experienced trauma and disruption within their early relationships. DDP is a therapy often used with children who have been adopted, fostered or live in kinship care and helps children feel safer and more secure in their relationships so that they have the opportunity to thrive.
DDP is also part of a broader model that helps parents and everyone involved with the child – key-people (e.g. teachers, social workers), teams and organisations – understand and discover what they can do to be most helpful for the child and their family.
Our team has additional training and supervision in DDP and can provide DDP-informed therapy and bring DDP principles into their consultation work.
Dr Billy Smythe is a Clinical Psychologist and certified DDP Practitioner, Consultant and Trainer. In addition to DDP therapy, Billy provides the following specialist services and training:
- DDP Consultation – working with child mental health and social care organisations, schools and residential homes to help them become DDP/attachment focussed and trauma informed in how they work with children and families
- DDP Training and workshops – PACE and Levels One and Two DDP training
- DDP supervision – for therapists using DDP principles and wanting to embark on the certification process to become a Practitioner in DDP
