Billy completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2009 and held NHS roles in a therapeutic fostering service and a mental health team for looked after and adopted children before joining Phoenix Psychology in autumn 2012. Until spring 2021, Billy headed the child services at Phoenix, where he was supported to develop his own skills and identity as a psychologist, whilst nurturing and leading the team offering assessments and therapy for children and young people with attachment difficulties and developmental trauma.
Billy started his DDP journey by attending DDP Level 1 training in 2013 and went on to be supported by Kim Golding to become a DDP Practitioner and DDP Consultant. In 2019, Billy became a DDP Trainer and joined the Board of Directors with DDP Connects UK and DDPI, promoting and helping develop DDP around the world.
Since April 2021 Billy has retained his relationship with Phoenix as an Associate and works independently offering DDP consultation, training and DDP supervision. Billy consults with a range of NHS. social care and independent organisations around the UK to help them grow and embed DDP practice across all levels of their services. This includes Adoption Central England (ACE), who have become a DDP Certified organisation. Billy is passionate about bringing DDP practice to life in organisations, supporting others to develop their DDP skills and demonstrating that services for children and families can, and should be, built around an approach which has understanding and connected relationships at heart.
He works closely with organisations and teams to help them develop and embed trauma / DDP-informed ways of working. For example, he is working with Adoption Central England (ACE) to embed DDP principles across the organisation and work towards their goal of becoming a Certified DDP Organisation
In addition to his role working at Phoenix, Billy is a Director with DDP Connects UK who organise and develop DDP in the UK and he is also on the Board of Directors with The Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy Institute who promote and advance DDP internationally.
