Billy is the Head of LAC and Adoption Services at Phoenix. He provides assessments and therapy for children and young people with attachment difficulties and developmental trauma.  All aspects of Billy’s day-to-day work are focussed on helping develop emotionally connected relationships between children and their carers and improving the security of children’s attachment and addressing trauma.  He tends to use an approach called Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy and Practice (DDP).

He has worked within Clinical Psychology since 2003 and has had roles within an NHS therapeutic fostering service and a specialist LAC mental health team before joining Phoenix Psychology in 2012.

He provides team and individual supervision. This includes DDP supervision; supporting practitioners through their DDP Practicum and supervision for those working with families of children looked after or adopted.

Billy is a certified DDP trainer providing Levels One and Two DDP training and PACE training across the UK.

He also offers consultation, training, seminars and workshops that are bespoke to the needs of those commissioning training.  This includes providing training for schools to help them become more attachment and trauma aware.

He works closely with organisations and teams to help them develop and embed trauma / DDP-informed ways of working.  For example, he is working with Adoption Central England (ACE) to embed DDP principles across the organisation and work towards their goal of becoming a Certified DDP Organisation

In addition to his role working at Phoenix, Billy is a Director with DDP Connects UK who organise and develop DDP in the UK and he is also on the Board of Directors with The Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy Institute who promote and advance DDP internationally.

He co-authored the UK DDP Commissioning Guidance and co-facilitates a DDP interest group in the West Midlands.
